Adanac starts out this series alphabetically, but it was in the last round of fabric orders from Spoonflower:
By the time this was sent, I had the designing down to a system.
My method was to make a central "hero" with a single boot or shoe and place it on a 9x9" square.
I'd derive the background from the original repeat.
Since the floral background repeat was 7.5", and the panel size was 6x6", it was a simple matter of making a single boot larger and finding the best area on the floral for placement
When it came to embroidering, I decided to make french knots in the flowers with green and blue centers. I enhanced the outline with double running stitch.
You will soon see these were my two favorite stitches!

Here's the back of the panel, after affixing with tape. Perhaps not the most elegant solution, but very non-destructive if someone wants to frame it some other way.
